The 3 days Lake Mburo National Park safari is undoubtedly one of the best short wildlife tours in Uganda. It ushers you into the magical savannas of Lake Mburo National Park, one of the smallest parks in Uganda and also the most accessible destinations from Kampala city Centre.
Lake Mburo National Park sits in Mbarara, Kiruhura districts, Western Uganda approximately 240kms from Kampala. It expands up-to 260sq.kms largely comprising of a vast savanna grassland, valleys, acacia woodland, swamps, lakes among others.
It protects 14 lakes, about 300 bird species, diversity of mammal species including Topis, elands, impalas, zebras, giraffes, reedbucks, bush pigs, hippos, warthogs, hyenas, lion, mongoose and many others. Your wildlife tour in this park includes a game drive and boat cruise.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala city expedition & drive to Lake Mburo National Park
Meet your driver guide after a leisurely breakfast and embark on Kampala city tour. Visit the Baha’i temple, Uganda museum, Kasubi tombs site and then proceed to Lake Mburo National Park about 4 hours’ drive along Masaka-Mbarara city route. Drive to Mbarara for lunch, then connect to the park to check in at the lodge. Later undertake a game drive to enjoy interesting sight of zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, lions, warthogs, giraffes and birds.
Day 2: Game drive & a launch trip
After breakfast, embark on a morning game drive in a 4×4 Land Cruiser or Safari Van with pop-up roof. Your game drive experience takes 2-3 hours along Kazuma track/trail and stand a chance to sight bush bucks, impalas, Klipspringer, waterbucks, zebras, elands, birds, leopards, jackals, buffaloes and a lot more.
Get back to the lodge for lunch and later, engage in a launch cruise along the vast Lake Mburo. On a boat cruise get sight of several birds ranging from pelicans, papyrus bush shrike, weaver birds, brown parrot, African fin foot, fish eagles, shoe bill stork, yellow breasted apalis to mention but a few.
Day 3: Drive back to Kampala/Entebbe from Lake Mburo
Have a leisurely breakfast and after, undertake either a walking safari or quad bike, bird watching and cycling. Note, Lake Mburo National Park is incredibly the only park where quad biking is offered. Return after enjoying astonishing views of wildlife and check out of the lodge then drive back to Kampala/Entebbe, about 4 hours’ drive.
