The trip activities entail chimpanzee trekking, community tours and walk in bigodi wetland sanctuary. Kibale forest National Park spreads over 766 square kilometers located in Fort portal district in western Uganda. This trip starts and ends in Entebbe Uganda
Trip day by day
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Depending on where you will be (your hotel in Entebbe or the airport), our professional driver guide, a presentative form our company will pick up and depart from Kibale Forest National park. Enjoy the 6 hours’ scenic drive via Mubende with a brief stop at Nakayima tree where prayers and cultural rituals are performed. Proceed to Fortpotal for lunch and thereafter drive visit to see the Amabere ga Nyinamwiru, Omukama Palace and the Karambi royal tombs if you wish.
Enjoy drive through fortprtal, the cleanest city in western Uganda. In the evening, drive to Kibale Forest National Park, a hub or primate trekking in Uganda. If time allows, you will have a guided evening walk through the forest to enjoy the sweet melodies of birding going back into their nests for night rest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi wetland walk
This is the day to meet the endangered chimpanzees. On this day you wake up very early, have breakfast and with your packed lunch drive to Kanyanchu visitor information Centre for registration and briefing on the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. You will be put together in groups of groups and allocated a chimpanzee community to visit.
At 8:00a am start up a hike into the jungle forest to meet these endangered species. The trek through Kibale forest offers you chance to meet other 12 primates in Kibale Forest National park including Red tailed monkeys, black and white monkeys, Vervet monkeys, baboons, Blue monkeys, red colobuses, L’Hoest Monkeys and Grey cheeked mangabays among others. Also, Kibale forest is home different butterfly specie which you will obviously see.
The trek on search of chimpanzees can last for over 6 hours but you ae very sure of meeting the endangered chimpanzees at the end of the trek. After finding the rare primates, you will spend an hour in their company, take as many pictures as you possible, capture live videos, learn their social behaviors and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.
In the afternoon, go for a nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary to enjoy the feel of a natural quite environment. Expect to see numerous bird species including Little Greenbul, White Napped Pigeon, Red Chested Owlet, African Grey Parrot, Crowned Eagle, Blue Breasted Kingfisher, Black Bee Eater, African Pied Wagtail, and African Pitta among others.
Day 3: Optional Community visit and Departure
On this last day of our trip, have an optional community tour to check different community projects around Kibale Forest National Park. The commonly visited project is the Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental Development (KAFRED) run by local communities.
There you will learn and where possible take part in hand work activities at the project such as weaving baskets and hand bags among others. Return to the lodge for relaxed breakfast, check out and embark on a drive back to Kampala for your connecting flight at Entebbe at International Airport.
End of the Tour
