Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: From Kigali airport to Volcanoes National Park
Once you arrive at Kigali Airport, have a warm welcome from your tour leader. After, you will a quick briefing before setting off to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. For about 2 to 3 hours’ drive, expect the magical view of surrounding area, rolling hills that describe Rwanda as the land of a thousand hills.
In the afternoon, take an adventure tour to explore the historical Musanze caves or engage in a canoe experience at the twin lakes – Bulera and Ruhondo.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and community tour
After you are done with a leisurely breakfast, gather at Kinigi where you will get briefed on gorilla trekking rules. Also, it is during today’s briefing that you will be assigned to a gorilla group. With your snacks and bottled mineral water, go look for mountain gorillas on an adventure taking you between 2 and 6 hours.
During the maximum of 1 hour with gorillas while observing a distance of 7-10m; have in-depth learning about gorillas’ behaviors, take photos. Volcanoes National Park lies within the Virunga Conservation Area and this region also includes Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda and Virunga National Park in Eastern DRC.
Volcanoes National Park second after Bwindi with highest number of habituated gorilla families, accounting for 10 of them. The groups in this park include Group 13/Agashya, Amahoro, Hirwa, Umubano, Kwitonda, Sabyinyo, Susa A, Susa B (Karisimbi), Ugenda and Bwenge.
After, get back to your booked lodge and later, have evening cultural experience at Ibyiwacu cultural village to get immersed into the local community and learn their ways of life.
Day 3: Departure from PNV and enjoy Kigali city
Have an early morning breakfast and after, be ready to get back to Kigali capital city of Rwanda for a 3 hour – drive.
A Kigali city expedition lasting for 2 hours will usher you to Gisozi genocide site to get insight on Rwanda genocide that occurred in 1994, visit the local markets, craft shops and after, have lunch. Once you have had lunch, proceed to the hotel or airport to fly back home.
