This ideal 3 days Murchison falls national park safari takes you to the wildlife hub and adventure home which is also Uganda’s largest and one of the oldest national park. The safari also brings you into contact with the world’s strongest waterfalls.
During a game drive, look out for the Big 4, countless antelopes and variety of bird species. The boat cruise to bottom of falls is rewarding as it presents another great opportunity to view more wildlife and awesome scenery.
Day 1: Kampala to Murchison falls national park. Visit Ziwa rhino sanctuary enroute
On the first morning of your safari, begin it with warm cup of coffee in Kampala, briefing from your safari guide and thereafter set off northwards along Gulu highway. Pass through Bombo, Luwero towns, past R. Kafu and to Nakasongola.
The journey will be cut short with a visit to Ziwa rhino sanctuary to meet some of the recently introduced black rhinos. The sanctuary was set up to protect and breed the rhino population in Uganda that went into extinction during civil wars in 1980s.
After this excursion, continue to the park, past Masindi town or via Karuma River, depending on the location of your lodge.
Depending on what you prefer, you may decide to take an evening game safari through the northern bank of River Nile, or just remain at the lodge for relaxation and dinner.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise
On the second of your trip, wake up to the amazing sunrise views over River Nile, have breakfast and take off as early as 7:00am to the park to begin your sunrise morning game safari. Join a park ranger who is more well versed with the park and movement of animals.
The morning safari is characterized with rare sightings as predators return to their hide outs after a hectic night of hunting and running back and forth with their prey. Look out for lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, vultures, owls and so much.
Other mammals to look out for in Murchison falls national park are plain elephants, cape buffaloes, Rothschild giraffes, and an array of antelope species.
After the game drive, have picnic lunch and proceed to Paraa docking point where you join other travelers on a boat trip along Victoria Nile. This boat cruise takes you to the bottom of world’s powerful waterfalls, but enroute the River is infested with lots of crocodiles, hippos busking in the afternoon sun, birds, and other mammals quenching their thirst on the river shorelines.
This boat begins at 2:00pm until 5:00pm. At the bottom of the falls, you will hike to the top of the falls, join your driver guide and transfer back to your lodge for relaxation and dinner.
Day 3: Travel back to Kampala
This is unfortunately the last day of your trip. With all the memories begin the drive back to Kampala after breakfast. Behold the beautiful scenery of country side along the way, undulating rugged hills of Nakasongola, the lush Kafu River, plantations in Luwero and bustling towns along the way.
Arrive in Kampala in the afternoon for lunch and relaxation. After you will transfer to Entebbe airport for departure flight or at the hotel in case you are not fighting out.
